Why create a scrapbook style photo album? When you have heaps of photos, it is a perfect way to document the things happening in them. A great method to record your life and milestone events such as births, weddings, Christmas and other special times.
I decided that I wanted more than a regular photo album after the birth of my second son, Joel. I wanted an album where I could put his hospital ID bracelet, several newsletter articles about the influx of pregnancies at my workplace and then a sample of his hair for his first haircut. I wanted a place where I could write about the birth experience and other important events or circumstances that happened in his life.
At the time, the only albums that were available were either self-adhesive or slip-in. At the time acid-free was not an option. I had never heard of scrapbooking and had no idea how I was going to make an album for him.
My idea of scrapbooking was a large cheap book that was used in Kindergarten to stick magazine photos or artwork with clag paste.
I was curious when a friend invited me to a scrapbooking party, and I was asked to bring 4-6 photos. I had no idea what to expect and I had a ball! I was shown how to adhere my photos to a white page with coloured cardstock triangles in each corner and some bright stickers strategically placed. I could write directly on the page to describe what the photos were, who was in them and when they were taken. I loved it!
So that started my journey and several hundred pages later... and a little bit more experienced and sophisticated ... here we are!
For me, scrapbooking is a technique to document my life and the lives of my children, and grandchildren with photos, and the story that goes with the photo. It is an opportunity to enhance the photos and add colour with various types of papers, cardstock, stickers, stamping, multi-media art and various embellishments such as glitter, ribbon, dots and gems.
The finished product offers hours of laughing, crying, and reminiscing for you, your family, and your friends. Photo albums help you to re-live moments that have long faded away. They show your family memories from before their lifetime but are a meaningful part of your family history. You can share stories from special events and momentous occasions that may have otherwise been long forgotten. Photo albums help to preserve your family legacy for future generations to come.
